Little is Much in the Hands of God
John Ogden Sr. - CMA
January 9, 2012
“But Jesus said to them, 'They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.' And they said to Him, 'We have here only five loaves and two fish.' He said, 'Bring them here to Me'’” (Matthew 14:16-18, NKJV)
This is a familiar setting of scripture dealing with Christ feeding 5,000 people with two fish and five loaves of bread. In man's eyes and hands, the small amount of fish and bread are inadequate to meet the needs of 5,000 people. As always, when we take what we have and give it to Christ to be used according to His plan and purpose, He multiplies it to accomplish His will. Our little becomes much in the hands of God.
God is not asking for our greatness; He is asking for our will. He is more interested in a willing vessel than a vessel filled with pride and the things of this world. Often in life we try to figure things out on our own. This will never bring about God's will or fulfill His promises in us.
This week as I was thinking about expansion on Iron Mountain, a thought rose up in my spirit, "Why don't you quit worrying about Iron Mountain and ask Me what My will is for Iron Mountain?" In the case of CMA and our daily lives, when we take our thoughts and our ways, and compare them to His thoughts and His ways, they seem little in the face of much. The Bible is filled with people who had little, but placed what they had in God's hands; for example, David and 5 smooth stones, Moses and his staff, the Apostle Paul and his will, Samson and his strength, the boy and his five fish and two loaves of bread. The list could go on and on, but the examples would all be the same. God is asking that we take our little, and place it in His hands that He may accomplish much by His Spirit through us.
What are the issues and burdens you are toiling with? Are you, like I was earlier this week, trying to do it on your own? We need to move our eyes from our abilities, take the little that God has given us, and give it to Him that He may accomplish His will in us. I challenge you today to take your will and place it in His hands that He may perfect you for the work that He has called you to do.
